Anger screaming in my head I have to smile and carry on behind this mask of happiness in this charade that is my life. Carry on with your busy little lives Pretending that you actually know me When you don't even try. Sometimes you ask me how I feel But I know you don't really mean it. Night fingers its way into my room, creeping softly so as not to stir a soul, escaping the solitary moon that illuminates my window. Shadows lurk silently in the corner, watching with unseeing eyes as a moth is drawn to the light. Fragile wings, casting eerie shadows that dance and flit like midnight faeries, wavering in the wind. The breeze whispers like the ghosts of forgotten children, trapped in limbo forever. Outside, the oily blackness Is pierced only by stars, Pinpricks in the never-ending dark, Soon to be banished by the rising sun. I sit. Watching. Listening. Enveloped in darkness, frozen in time. I can feel it coming The darkness I am all too familiar with. I have to, the compulsion is too great. I take the scissors, open them. Blades glinting. I draw them across my skin. Sweet. The pain is relieving. I watch the blood ooze out, forming drops that weave a path down my arm. The trickling beads glisten, deep red in the faint moonlight, tainted with darkness from the shadows. I trace the twisting patterns, lick my finger. Tasting the metallic bitterness, real. I pull my sleeve down over the other white scars permanently tattooed on my skin My anger is gone.
